When I learned that it was National Overdose Awareness Day my mind immediately went to the Holy Spirit and not necessarily prescription drugs. I was reminded of the scripture, Ephesians 5:18 that reads “and do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit (NKJV).
We often hear that too much of anything is bad for you but I’d beg to differ when it comes to being “drunk” or “overdosed” by the Spirit. We live in a world where we consume so much unnecessary, time draining, negative things but when will we be filled with “too much” goodness?!
Often times we have an overdose in what doesn’t matter and an under-dose in what actually does matter. Have you been Overdose or Under-dose by the Holy Spirit? Are you so filled with Him that your walk, talk, and judgment sound just like Him or are you filled with things of this world and your walk, talk, and judgment/reasoning look just like it?
Take some time today on National Overdose Awareness Day to assess the areas in your life that are under-dose and overdose. Maybe you are overdose on work. Maybe you are overdose on that toxic relationship. Maybe you are overdose on worrying, fear and anxiety.
What about the areas in your life that you are under-dosed? Maybe you are under-dose in the Spirit. If you are, create time to spend with God in your secret “War Room” (aka. Prayer closet). Maybe you are under-dose in time with your family. If you are, put the technology and work down and make it your business to spend time with your family. You don’t want to be so consumed with becoming successful that you neglect the viable years with your family and friends that you will never get back! Maybe you are under-dose in motivation, encouragement, and inspiration. If you are, first do a self- check. What is going on inside of you that needs attention? Then do a people-check. Who do you have in your circle of influence? If they are always negative and mediocre then fire them and find new friends.
Life is all about balance. If you are overdose in some areas and under-dose in others begin to create a strategic plan to create the balance that you need! Specifically, if you are under-dosed in the Spirit then ask Him to remove whatever is causing you to be overdosed in areas that are irrelevant!
Your future self will thank you for it later!
