A Two Year Old’s Mentality

If you have a child or have been around a two year old then I’m sure you have taken note that some of their favorite words are “MINE” and “GIVE ME” along with others such as “NO” lol.

Two year olds always want more than they can handle and they always want to be able to do more than they are actually capable of doing. I find it pretty interesting that we have some grown 2 year olds walking around in this world today. We want more, more, and more more instantly. We don’t think about the cost of getting more and we don’t think about whether we can actually handle MORE.

We pray the Jabez prayer (I Chronicles 4:10), “Lord bless me and enlarge my territory”, yet we are having a hard time managing the small 500 square feet of responsibility that God has already given us and despite this truth we STILL ask for more.

I love how this scripture gives us a visual of what it is like to get more:

“That servant who knows his master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what his master wants will be beaten with many blows. 48 But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.” – Luke 12:47-48

Along with getting more, you will always be given MORE RESPONSIBILITY and the standards in which you are able to live will be INCREASED! If you want more then more will be expected and demanded of you.

When that two year old that you were around wanted more than they could hold or persisted on doing something on his/her own what did you do? For me, I typically would just let them have their way (of course not in dangerous situations) ONLY to prove a point…that they cannot handle more than their little hands can hold and they still need help from adults no matter how “independent” they think they are.

I feel God does us the same way considering that we are His children. We beg and beg and beg for more despite Him telling us that we are not quite ready for it. We persist and at times He gives it to us…not because He is a push over but to prove a point.

These times are to teach us to stop asking for things that we know we are not ready for and to teach us to be good stewards of what we already have BEFORE asking for more. Patience is key along with mastering and honoring what we have before we go on to obtain more. Learning delayed gratification should be the prerequisite. Always remember…don’t bite off more than you can chew 😉

More wisdom, more revelation, more vision, more dreams, more territory, more insight…equals… more responsibility, more demands, more expectations of you, and a higher standard to live by…can you handle all of that?
